The Throwback wedding I get to share with you today is pure magic. The boho-chic theme. The incredible florals. The precious bride and groom and their obvious adoration for one another. The whole thing is just totally swoon-worthy. It’s also proof that rain on your wedding day is definitely not a bad thing; in fact, it can be one of the most beautiful, unforgettable details from the whole day.
Samantha and Danny’s photos were taken by Stephanie Parsley Photography, and they sure are magical… I can already tell I’m going to be using that word a lot in this post, but when you see these photos, you’ll understand why!
Samantha and Danny were married at The Barn at Twin Oaks Ranch on June 1, 2014. Their wedding included a barefoot bride (the best!), rain and sunshine, lace and skulls, the prettiest flower crowns, and my very favorite color, seafoam! The story behind Samantha's wedding colors is extremely sweet. Her inspiration came from Danny himself.
“When we first started dating, he gave me this seafoam green, braided headband he had gotten from a mission trip in Haiti,” Samantha said. “From the moment he gave it to me, I knew that seafoam green was my favorite. I still have it, and it was my first thought when we talked about a color scheme. We ended up going with seafoam, gold and cream.”
Samantha described the wedding theme as "woodland, bohemian chic."
"Danny and I both are really artistic, passionate, fun loving people, so we knew we didn’t want to have a traditional wedding because it wouldn’t have been us," she said. "We wanted things to be carefree and meaningful at the same time. We definitely wanted something different and unique and totally us."
And beautifully unique, it was.
Samantha's dress was jawdroppingly beautiful. It came from The Dress Theory in Nashville, and it fit the theme and style of her wedding perfectly. And don't you LOVE her floral crown? It's the most beautiful one I've ever seen, and I just can't get enough!
How pretty are these bridesmaids? I'm obsessed with their mismatched cream dresses and headbands. Most of the dresses are Free People, and they are the definition of boho-chic.
Danny and his groomsmen looked pretty darn great, too. You just can't beat light gray and suspenders. And doesn't this look like the most fun group of guys?
When it came to her bouquets, Samantha knew she didn’t want anything round or very formal. “My original idea for the bouquets was that I had wanted something more wild looking, something more organic,” she said. “I really wanted the flowers to waterfall over my hands. I wanted it to be filled with pastel colors with a pop of some brighter pinks and yellows, along with some greenery.” She wanted her bridesmaids’ bouquets to be the same shape and style, but with white flowers.
And let me tell you… Samantha’s bouquets are some of my favorites ever.
Samantha and Danny's ceremony decor is so pretty, I could seriously cry. Like I said, these are some of my favorite florals ever, and their altar is so simple, yet uniquely pretty.
As I mentioned before, it rained on Samantha and Danny's big day. Actually, it rained throughout their entire outdoor ceremony. But look at their faces when they first saw one another as Samantha walked down the aisle... The rain sure didn't have an effect on this sweet couple's joy!
Ladies, if your man doesn't look at you like this when you're walking down the aisle, turn around and do it again.
See what I mean? PURE JOY. Samantha said the rain ended up being her favorite wedding detail. Say WHAT?! Isn't that what every bride dreads? This precious bride has an amazing little story that will totally destroy all your rainy wedding day fears:
"The wedding coordinator held the ceremony for a few minutes hoping that the rain would let up before I walked outside, but it was inevitable. So, with a deep breath and a quick prayer, I walked outside underneath the umbrella they held up for me until I would reach the aisle. Oh, did I mention I was a barefoot bride, too? Yeah, there was mud ALL over my feet and eventually my train. I didn’t care though. I was so, so happy and excited to see Danny. As soon as I appeared at the back of the aisle, I saw Danny’s face and I grinned so big. I then fully realized how much I actually loved that it was raining. It was like God was showering His blessings down on us and making us new before we said, “I do”. Here’s the craziest part of this story though, and this is the part I will never, ever forget: our song choice for when we walked down the aisle together was “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. As soon as we kissed and the band started playing it, the sun came out and the rain stopped. It was perfect timing, just like in a movie. It was awesome and it didn’t rain again that entire evening. Not in a million years could I have planned a more perfect way to walk down the aisle with Danny than that."
And that, dear friends, is what you call a miracle.
Some of Samantha and Danny's talented friends sang "hippie-ish" (in Samantha's own words) songs during their ceremony, which made it even more special. "It set the tone of the wedding that we wanted and added that carefree feeling we wanted. It was beautiful and they did a spectacular job," she said.
After the kiss, Samantha, Danny and their guests headed on over to The Barn for a gorgeous woodland, boho-chic reception. Their reception decor included lace and burlap, incredible floral arrangements, a few seafoam mason jars, photos of the bride and groom throughout their lives, and some seriously fabulous cow skulls and antlers. And my goodness, does this reception look like it was fun!
Oh, gosh. The Barn sure is magical in those colors!
Samantha and Danny wanted to stay true to their Southern roots, so it only made sense that they feed their guests with "the best kind of food there is." (And y'all, it's a fact. Southern food is the best food there is.) They served fried catfish, gumbo, fried okra, mashed potatoes and, of course, sweet tea. Yum! Danny's mom created a signature cocktail that perfectly fit in with the color theme. The drink, called "Mint to Be," was so delicious that by the time Samantha and Danny showed up, there were only two glasses left!
Samantha and Danny's first dance, as well as the father/daughter and mother/son dances, were super special. Samantha said Danny's mom wanted them all to take dancing lessons to prepare for the reception, and her practice dances with her dad felt "a little lackluster," she said. "It just didn't feel like what my dad and I would do, but I went along with it because I knew Dad was excited about learning the dance."
At the reception, they started their planned dance to Journey's "Faithfully," but it still didn't feel right. Just before the song's big drum/guitar solo, Samantha whispered to her dad, "You ready to rock out?"
"Next thing everyone knows, we are breaking out in a drum and guitar air solo along with the music," Samantha said. "It was hysterical and totally us. It was only natural that we did what we do best, which was being absolute dorks in front of everyone together."
If only ALL dads were this cool!
As with all the other details of Samantha and Danny's wedding, the cake is also one of my favorite cakes ever. This seafoam ombre cake just makes my heart happy! The groom's Razorback cake is so stinkin' cute. Those little Razorbacks in love! I just can't. The cakes were made by the always fabulous TheCakePlace, who we adore!
For wedding favors, this creative couple had a build-your-own trail mix bar. Samantha said she and Danny were too busy having a great time to even see the trail mix bar, but they heard that their guests loved it!
After sweet toasts made by their family and friends and a really fun party, these two ran through a tunnel of sparklers and left for their honeymoon, which Danny surprised Samantha with! (You're a good man, Danny.)
Samantha told Danny she wanted their honeymoon to include a beach, some adventure and a lot of relaxation. Danny kept suggesting locations, but none of them ever stood out to Samantha. He decided to surprise her and planned a trip to Kauai, Hawaii.
"We didn’t feel like tourists because of how small the island was, and we got to do everything we both wanted," Samantha said. "Danny had planned every bit of it, including a night where we camped on the beach and also a day where we went deep sea fishing."
Looking back on her wedding day and the whole planning process, this is what Samantha had to say:
"My favorite part about getting married at The Barn was that it was the absolute perfect location we had been looking for and the huge amount of help we received from the people who work there. We had looked at a couple of other outdoor places, but they just didn’t feel right. As soon as we pulled up to the Barn, we knew it was the place for our wedding. It was so beautiful and the whole layout was perfect for us. It looked picturesque and fit our bohemian theme so well. And everyone on the team was very helpful and made our wedding feel special and like they only had ours on their mind. We really appreciated all of their inputs and the way they listened to our wants and needs. We could not have planned a beautiful wedding in seven months without them. It definitely would not have been successful."
Samantha and Danny, it was an honor to get to be a part of your special day. Y'all are the sweetest, and we wish you a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness!
Y'all will definitely want to go check out the rest of this couple's amazing photos on Stephanie Parsley Photography's Facebook page. They're stunning!
I hope y'all enjoyed this wedding as much as I did, and I'll see you back here tomorrow.
