Wedding Jams: Music for a Fun Reception

This is one of the most fun posts I've written. I had way too much fun coming up with these little playlists! If you're planning your wedding and you're doing your own music, here are the jams you need to play. And if you're having a band or a DJ, make sure some of these are on their lists!

Hey y'all! We know a lot of you are planning your weddings, so we're taking it upon ourselves to answer your most common wedding questions! A couple weeks ago, I talked about what to do when your guests don't RSVP. This week, let's discuss something else that's asked a lot at The Barn: what kind of music should I play at my wedding?

If you're having a band or a DJ, they will know what to play to get the party started. However, if you're making playlists for your reception, there are a few tricks that will help you to create a playlist that will get everyone on the dance floor!

You've got to have a variety of music. Not everyone is going to be into every song you play, so you have to create a good mix of songs with something for everyone... from your country-loving cousins to your hipster friends and your aunt with disco fever to your grandma who only knows the old stuff. You should try to have at least a few songs from several genres. You don't have to play anything you hate, but try to pick out a handful of songs that you enjoy from each genre. You should include both old and new music, some slow songs, and several classics that everyone knows - those always get the party going! You don't want all of your music to be from the last year, or many of your guests won't know it. Be sure to mix in some songs that your mom or grandma will jam out to! ;)
