I couldn't be more thrilled to share today's gorgeous wedding with y'all! This is the only wedding at The Barn that I've seen come together from start to finish, so this one is extra special to me! (I blogged all about it, of course, from the initial consultation to the 30 day meeting, and then some shots that I took of this couple's gorgeous wedding day.) Kelsey and Gueorgui are the sweetest couple, and their wedding was truly unique. We couldn't stop talking about it from the minute they booked with us, and it totally lived up to the hype!
The photographer for this wedding was Katie Childs from Pictures by Katie, and she is amazing! We had never worked with her before, but she totally killed it. These photos are gorgeous, and I'm super excited for y'all to see them!
Kelsey and Gueorgui were married at The Barn at Twin Oaks Ranch on April 17, 2015. They chose a muted color scheme, with tons of gorgeous greenery and a woodland-chic, forest-inspired theme. "I started wedding planning set on a burlap and lace theme, but I found myself leaning towards a forest setting," Kelsey said. "I knew our wedding should be a balance of masculine and feminine, so that meant no bling." The look they achieved was pure magic! This wedding was truly as dreamy as it gets.
This wedding was also unique because of the traditions that Kelsey and Gueorgui incorporated into their ceremony and reception. Gueorgui's family is from Bulgaria, and they worked several Bulgarian traditions into their wedding day. "What was most amazing to us was how well our families got along despite the language barrier," Kelsey said. "Because Gueorgui’s family is from Bulgaria, our families had not had the chance to meet before the wedding, so this was a very exciting time. Not only because of the wedding, but for the merging of two families."
Kelsey's bridal gown came from David's Bridal, and it could not have been prettier on her. It was simple, but absolutely stunning. And she wore flowers in her hair, which I love! At her 30 day meeting, Kelsey also had her bridal photos taken, and even though it poured throughout her session, the photos turned out incredible! The photo of her in front of The Barn is from that day, and it is the prettiest!
Kelsey's bridesmaids wore strapless, pale pink dresses from David's Bridal, while the groom and his groomsmen wore gray suits with pale pink ties. Their attire fit with the theme so well, and it looked stunning against the lush, green backdrop that The Barn provides in spring, as well as all the greenery in the wedding decor!
By the way, when you choose to get married at The Barn, you've gotta be prepared for whatever might be lurking in those woods. Don't say we didn't warn ya!
When the bride and groom love soccer, guess what we set up for them on the lawn?! You guessed it. ;) A little pre-ceremony soccer game never hurt anybody!
As I've mentioned, Kelsey loves the look of mostly greenery, so there was a lot more greenery than actual flowers in the bouquets and floral arrangements. It was so, so gorgeous! When I asked her about her bouquets, she said, "Wow! Just Wow! The BATOR team really blew me away with the bouquets. My bouquet, as well as the bridesmaid’s bouquets, had a base of greenery (ivy, ferns, etc.) with tons of beautiful blooms (roses, peonies, and scabiosa pods to match the boutonnieres)."
Kelsey and Gueorgui chose to have a first look on their wedding day, and the photos from those moments are precious. These portraits are some of the absolute prettiest!
Kelsey, you are the loveliest bride ever!
Kelsey and Gueorgui's wedding ceremony was truly perfect, from the decor to the sweet, carefully considered and planned vows and traditions that they incorporated. Our ceremony area is gorgeous and lush during the spring, and all the greenery Kelsey and Gueorgui used in their decor blended in perfectly. The details made it feel as though this wedding was happening deep in a forest, and it couldn't have been more lovely! Aside from the greenery, they also used vintage books in muted colors in their decor, as well as logs and candles. Their altar was marvelous. It was draped in ivory fabric and covered with gorgeous greenery and pale colored flowers. For their guestbook, they used a piece of wood painted by Kelsey's cousin.
"We completely created the ceremony," Kelsey said. "Because neither of us are very religious, we had a blank slate to work with. I have always loved the concept of a handfasting (literally tying the knot), and knew it had to be in the ceremony. While researching the handfasting, I came across a ring warming. I showed it to Gueorgui, and he loved it immediately."
Although this may be a little more work than using a traditional ceremony or finding something on Google, creating your ceremony makes your wedding day even more special. This ceremony was so well thought out, and it was amazing! They also wrote their own vows. Gueorgui said the part of their vows he would always remember: "Kelsey promising to kill spiders." ;)
"When Gueorgui and I first started dating, we would dance, alone in his dorm room, to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica," Kelsey said. "So naturally, we had to have it in the wedding. Most people giggled uncomfortably when I mentioned it, but the BATOR staff took it in stride. And boy did they deliver!" Kelsey walked down the aisle to this song, and it was ahhh-mazing. Seriously, their DJ and I were standing inside The Barn as the ceremony trio began playing the most beautiful version of this song, and we maybe had a super nerdy freak-out moment together. It. Was. Awesome. It sorta blew my mind in the best way possible.
I've talked about this detail on the blog a million times, because I think it's so awesome... Kelsey and Gueorgui chose to have flower grandmas instead of flower girls! It was precious and adorable. What a sweet way to honor some of the most important women in your life!
They also included their pup, Berba, in their ceremony! We looooove pets in weddings. And how cute are these tiny ring bearers and their "hurry up, I want cake" sign?!
"One part of the traditional wedding I have never liked is the handing off of the bride," Kelsey said. "I always joked with my step-father that I am not a football, and will not be treated as such! Instead, we asked both sets of parents to step forward and bless the union."
The next two photos are of their ring warming ceremony. During this ceremony, friends and family hold the couple's rings, warming them with love and hope and saying a quick prayer or blessing over their marriage. It was such a beautiful ceremony!
These two also literally tied the knot with a handfasting ceremony!
After the kiss and some fun portraits together, Kelsey and Gueorgui headed on over to The Barn for the most magical reception there ever was! Their tables were decorated with brown tablecloths with lace toppers, gold place settings with vintage, mismatched glassware in shades of gold and green and glittery napkin rings, vintage books, moss table runners (sooo pretty!), floral arrangements with tons of greenery and ivory flowers, taper candles on gold candlesticks, and so many other pretty details. Pretty sure The Barn has never looked better!
These two lovebirds wanted a sweetheart table and a head table, so our team gave them both! They had their own little round table with a rectangular table for their bridal party on each side. Their table backdrop was stunning! And the bride and groom chair signs, written in Bulgarian, were the icing on the cake.
As we all know, your details are what make or break your wedding. Kelsey and Gueorgui incorporated so many fun, unique details into their day that made it even more awesome. Their reception included disposable cameras for their guests to use, a kids' table, and the best favors ever: Arkansas moonshine (apple pie, plum and clear... yum) and a tea bar! They also served wine that had their faces on the bottle. Yep, these two know how to make a wedding special.
The food at this wedding was incredible (trust me, I sampled it all ;). They started their ceremony with a cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres on the lawn. Their menu included several Bulgarian appetizers, and their guests loved trying foods they'd never had before. Their dinner menu included lamb medallions and Norwegian salmon, and it was delish! They also toasted with a traditional Bulgarian liquor.
Aside from all the delicious food, they also had the prettiest cake and a groom's cheesecake, both from theCakePlace. What we love about theCakePlace: their desserts are always as yummy as they are beautiful!
Kelsey and Gueorgui's first dance was awesome, just like everything else at their wedding! They danced to "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith, and it was super sweet. Kelsey danced to "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses with her step dad. At the end of their dance, he handed her a photo of her dad, who has passed away. It was such a precious, special moment!
By the way, if you didn't know, The Barn becomes magical after dark. Here's proof!
The night ended with lots of dancing, including a few Bulgarian dances! Then the newlyweds and their pup Berba made their grand exit through a bunch of sparklers, and off to a unique honeymoon!
"Because so much of Gueorgui’s family is from out of the country, we wanted to spend as much time with them as possible," Kelsey said. "We rented a cabin in the woods and spent two amazing weeks fishing and hiking with his family. I loved that our families were able to meet and spend time with one another. We have booked an actual honeymoon in November. We are going to Tulum, Mexico (the place where I proposed to Gueorgui)!" Umm, add that to the list of reasons we think this girl is so awesome.
Finally, we asked Kelsey and Gueorgui to let us know how we did. Kelsey said: “I could not give The Barn higher praises. They took my crazy ideas and incorporated them into a beautiful and flawless wedding.” And Gueorgui said: “I would do my wedding at The Barn again if I could.”
Kelsey and Gueorgui, we would do your wedding all over again if we could, too! It was unique and wonderful, and we’re so glad you chose us as your wedding venue! Enjoy your honeymoon in November, and we wish y’all the very best! xoxoxoxoxo
See why I’m so crazy about this wedding? These two are so fun, and this wedding was over-the-top incredible! So many details. So much pretty. Love!!!
