Not every wedding day goes as planned. Sometimes, the skies open up and it pours. And pours and pours and pours. That was the case on Samantha and Matt's wedding day. This couple had fun, outdoorsy details planned for their guests, including a slip-n-slide after the ceremony, but unfortunately they were rained out. However, one thing our brides love about The Barn... even if it does rain on your wedding day, it is still going to be amazing! If you have your heart set on an outdoor wedding, I promise you'll love your ceremony even if we have to move it indoors. (But if you want to get married outside in the rain, like Samantha + Danny, we'll make it happen!) Here are just a few stunning weddings that were relocated inside The Barn due to weather: Cassie + Kyle, Brittany + Tyler, Cara + Brock, and Anita + Wesley had a gorgeous indoor ceremony site, but they chose to get married outside.
Anyway, this wedding had a unique color palette and sooo many fun details! Taylor Howard Photography did their photos, and they are so dreamy. So many romantic black and white photos. It was really hard for me to narrow them all down to fit in a blog post! :)
Samantha + Matt were married at The Barn at Twin Oaks Ranch on October 24, 2015. Their color palette included navy and sparkly gold. Some of Sam's inspiration behind the color scheme: some gorgeous sparkly bridesmaids' dresses that she had seen on Pinterest! "I knew I had to have them and wanted to incorporate more sparkle where I could," she said. "I basically planned the whole thing around those dresses! Matt suggested navy for a more masculine feel and the colors looked great together. His only request was 'nothing pink or too girly' so I figured sparkles and navy was a fair compromise."
These two didn't choose a specific theme, but many of their details were quirky-chic... That's probably not a legit wedding term, but there were lots of glam, chic, sparkly details, as well as fun things like pineapples (seriously!) and succulents. Here's a quick peek at their reception tables!
Sam's bridal gown and her bridesmaids' dresses were definitely some of the best details from this wedding. Sam's gown was from Low's Bridal, and I'm pretty sure I've never seen a more fabulous dress! "I went in saying I wanted nothing poofy and left with quite possibly one of the biggest dresses there!" she said. Isn't it funny how that works? ;) The silhouette, details and ruffles of this dress are totally swoon-worthy! Sam, you could not be any more gorgeous!
You know it's a big deal when a bride pretty much plans her wedding around her bridesmaids' dresses! They were Badgley Mischka dresses that the bridesmaids rented from Rent The Runway for a fraction of the price. And let me tell you, I have maaaajor heart eyes for these gowns! If there was ever a gown worth planning your wedding around, this is it!
Sam and Matt obviously have the best taste in fashion of any bride and groom ever, so the groom and his groomsmen also looked impeccable, too. Gray + gold... I LOVE this color combination. So glam! This bridal party couldn't be any prettier!
Sam and Matt chose to schedule a first look before their ceremony, and ohhh, my goodness! These photos are incredible! I think I pored over them for an hour before deciding which ones to post. These are the dreamiest, most romantic first look photos ever. Swoooooon!!!
Sam and Matt's florals were unique and so, so pretty. "I knew next to nothing about flowers and at the coordination meeting basically said 'I like the way these look and those are pretty too' and the staff were kind enough to tell me the names of the flowers and what they could do with them," Sam said. "I knew I wanted ranunculus and succulents – very nontraditional flowers – and the result looked spectacular. I’m still in love with all the floral arrangements."
I'm absolutely crazy about this fun orange bouquet! Do you see the tiny bit of sparkly gold and the feather on Matt's boutonniere? "He's an avid duck hunter and as outdoorsy as they come, so I really wanted to include something to recognize that," Sam said. Fun fact: Matt also loves the St. Louis Cardinals and wore some Cardinals socks as well!
As I mentioned, Sam and Matt's ceremony had to be moved into The Barn because of the weather. But their ceremony was just as gorgeous as it would have been outside, with a more cozy, intimate atmosphere. The aisle was lined with floral arrangements with orange, red and yellow flowers and succulents, as well as candles, which created a romantic vibe. They had a simple fabric backdrop with a gold pineapple chandelier (amazing!) as their altar. They also had a fun guestbook alternative - a wooden chair for their guests to sign!
"It rained and it rained a lot!" Sam said. "There was a small chance we would still get to have the ceremony outside but the rain did not hold off so the entire thing and many, many guests were moved inside last minute – and it went off without a hitch. I was so thankful for the preparation that went into it and it made for a much more intimate setting."
After the kiss, Sam and Matt headed outside into the dreary weather for a few romantic photos as newlyweds! That newlywed glow, though! These photos couldn't be more dreamy.
The Barn looks incredible during the fall, even when the weather is wet and gross. These photos of the lawn all set up for their cocktail hour allllmost make me wish it could be fall all year-round. :)
Sam and Matt's reception details were SO fun (even though they had to cancel their slip-n-slide!). Their reception tables included navy linens, sparkly gold runners, floral arrangements in gold vases, simply glam gold and white place settings, vintage mismatched glassware, gold bottles, gold wire vases, aaaand gold pineapples,
"I love everything about pineapples and The Barn staff took that from my Pinterest board and incorporated them into the decor!" she said. "I've received so many compliments about them. They were everywhere! I've never seen anything like it at a wedding before and it just made me so happy to see them everywhere."
Another fun detail: cow and chicken escort cards! We looove these escort cards.
The icing on the already delicious cake was... the cake. Sam's cake was a glam three-tiered cake with one gold tier and two naked ones. It was made complete with a few flowers and berries. Elegant and beautiful! Matt represented his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, with his groom's cake. "We did St. Louis Cardinals drink koozies to go with his groom’s cake (and his socks)," Sam said. "We’re huge Cardinals fans – we even named our dog Yadi!"
Sam and Matt spent their reception doing all the fun reception traditions (first dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance, cutting the cake, etc.) and having a really fun time with their loved ones. These first dance photos are <3 <3 <3
Sam made an outfit change (we love a bride who gets comfy so she can really have a good time with her guests!), and these two lovebirds made their grand exit through a bunch of sparklers. And they went off to St. Lucia for a week! "It was beautiful and an experience I won't forget," Sam said. "There's nothing quite like waking up on the beach every day and immersing yourself in a different culture."
Finally, Sam had a few really sweet things to say about her experience with The Barn! "Matt is typically out of state for work for a month at a time and I knew I didn’t want to plan a wedding by myself," she said. "The Barn staff took all of that pressure off of me and created a beautiful venue that really captured us and everything we wanted. The whole night was so much fun and I recommend y’all to everyone!"
Sam and Matt, thank y'all so much!!! We loved planning your wedding with you, and we love love LOVED your fun, unique wedding day! We wish y'all a lifetime of love, adventure and happiness! xoxoxoxoxo
Eeeeep, that bridal gown. Those bridesmaids' dresses! Those fun gold pineapples. I loved every single inch of this wedding!!!
